ND-UGA Weekend

Beat Georgia.jpg

We have received several inquiries about the upcoming game weekend for the UGA Game on September 21, 2019. It will be one of the top five CFB games of the year for all of college football, and should be on ESPN Game Day.  The Notre Dame Alumni Association has told us to expect upwards of 2000 people for our Saturday tailgate.  Tickets will be limited as it will be a sellout. The University tickets will be priced at $185 the ticket lottery is scheduled for 7/1/19.

We are in the process of planning a full weekend right now in conjunction with the Alumni Association. We will have a Pep Rally in Atlanta on Friday night at a local bar. We anticipate several Notre Dame celebrities in attendance - several live in the local area with potentally former headcoach in addition to the Cheerleaders. We have a confirmation from the Notre Dame Bookstore and are waiting to hear from the Notre Dame Band.

Anthony Travel has selected the Westin Peachtree for their travel hotel packages - their are several alternative hotels in the area for people who do not want to use the Anthony Travel package. The club will offer bus transportation to/from downtown Atlanta area to Athens, GA. The tailgate will be in downtown Athens. It will family friendly and include southern barbeque. We are awaiting final pricing but expect ~$75 per adult and a reduced child pricing (<12 years old) option.

We are looking for sponsors for both the Pep Rally and tailgate.  There will be significant exposure and potentially have spots on ESPN and College Game Day.   If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact ndatalnta@alumni.nd.edu.

On Sunday afternoon, Atlanta Braves will have a Notre Dame Day for their 1:20PM game with the San Francisco Giants at SunTrust Park.

We will be putting up a website for the Weekend activities shortly. Please ask our alumni to go through the official Notre Dame tailgate with the Alumni Association. We anticipate several competing groups (we have been contacted by several) and have found issues with each, prompting us to run the weekend ourselves.

Summer Service Learning Program

Center for Social Concerns.png

Rooted in the Catholic social tradition and in collaboration with Notre Dame Clubs and site partners across the country, the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP) is a three-credit Theology course with eight-week immersive service placements in communities on the margins of society. Students develop a deeper conviction of the kinship of all persons made equally in God’s image, a more disciplined awareness of the causes and effects of social injustice, and a lifelong commitment to vocations marked by solidarity and the pursuit of the common good.  The Notre Dame Club of Atlanta is sponsoring three students this summer.

Our first two SSLP students arrive on May 18th and the third arrives the following week. The students will working at Catholic Charities in Refugee Resettlement, Sheltering Arms, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

When the arrive, I would like to encourage our club to welcome them to Atlanta by inviting them to any events the students might enjoy.  Examples of such events are sporting events, Masses, weekend lake visits, Masses, home cooked family meals, etc.

As they in the midst of preparing for exams, we will share their contact information before they arrive.   If you have questions about the Summer Service Learning Program or helping the students for this year or future years, contact our SSLP Coordinator:

Universal Notre Dame Celebration 2019 and Student Send-off

Uniquely Notre Dame.jpg

We are planning our annual Universal Notre Dame Celebration in early to mid August in conjunction with the Student Send-off.

Michael Sullivan | Senior Director of Alumni Programs, Notre Dame Alumni Association

Michael Sullivan | Senior Director of Alumni Programs, Notre Dame Alumni Association

The Universal Notre Dame Celebration began in 1924 as an annual radio broadcast to clubs to share the “State of the University,” Universal Notre Dame Celebrations are evolving and focusing on the unique character of Notre Dame that bonds us as a community.

Notre Dame Clubs across the country host a Universal Notre Dame (UND) Celebration once a year.   This flagship Notre Dame Alumni Association event provides local alumni, friends and family an opportunity to connect with the University via keynote speakers and to celebrate their local club’s accomplishments.

The speakers who represent the University are experienced and impressive administrators, faculty and staff who come from all departments within the University.  Together they participate in more than 145 of your UND Celebrations each year.

Our speaker this year is Michael Sullivan, the Senior Director of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.  As a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association Senior Management Team, Mike is responsible for Alumni Programs Operations. The Programs Team oversees a wide range of activities including domestic and international Notre Dame clubs, reunions, faith and spirituality initiatives, as well as academic and professional programs designed at drawing Notre Dame alumni and friends into a closer relationship with the University on campus, on-line, and in their local communities. Mike is great speaker with wealth of information about the university.

We are looking for committee members to help us plan the date and event.     If you are interested, please email the club.
