Charity Golf Tournament Results

Golf Tournament.jpg

The Irish-Bulldog Charity Scholarship Golf Outing at Athens Country Club on Monday, May 20th was a big success thanks to the generosity of the sponsors and players. The universities raised over $22,000 for scholarships which will be split between Notre Dame's Peach State Scholarship and UGA to support financial aid for students in need.

Much thanks to the MANY volunteers led by Michael Desrosiers who planned, organized and worked the event for over six months of effort with the UGA Alumni Association Athens Area Chapter and their Silver Dogs. The hard work from many great people on both sides made the event much fun for the players on a beautiful day in Athens.

We look forward to working with them again as the football game in Athens approaches.

Look for more information on the UGA Weekend at More details on the weekend and tickets to events will be available on June 1st.

Peach State Scholarship Results

The 2019 Peach State Scholarships were awarded on May 1st to two outstanding students. Eighteen students applied for the awards.

The Peach State Scholarship was created in 1996 by the Notre Dame Club of Atlanta. The scholarship is a needs-based award presented to students from north and central Georgia who are attending the University of Notre Dame. From a humble beginning 23 years ago, the Club has raised funds for this scholarship through an annual golf event, raffles, and more recently the game tickets. Over the years and through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, the scholarship fund has grown to over $800,000.00. The Club has expanded its efforts to increase our annual contribution so we can help make a bigger impact to the students receiving funds.

The Club currently contributes to seven students annually. Your support of this effort will enable the Notre Dame Club of Atlanta to make that increase to our annual contribution to the students attending the University of Notre Dame and help them develop into tomorrow’s leaders in our community and around the world.

Thank you Richard Westenberger and Russ Williams who led a committee of volunteers evaluating the applications.

Notre Dame Day Results

On April 28-29 the sixth annual Notre Dame Day took place. Notre Dame Day is a 29-hour global celebration of the Notre Dame mission, and was an opportunity to mobilize local alumni and friends to raise money for our club scholarship fund. The 144 votes we received provided $1820 for our local students.

Thank you to all who participated.

Business Networking at Pricci

The networking event at Pricci took place on May 2nd and was a success. Drinks, hors d'oeuvres, updates from the university and good conversation. Great to see the representatives from the Mendoza College of Business and other Mendoza College of Business Graduate Alumni.

Look for more networking events from our various committees throughout the year.

Ronald McDonald House Dinner Service | June 9

Ronald McDonald House.jpg

The Club continues its quarterly volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House on June 9th (and again on August 4th).

Volunteers make the difference in the lives of all the families that come through our doors by cooking, hosting, listening, nurturing, or by simply being there and helping out in any way they can. In fact, RMHC is supported by 508,788 volunteers who dedicate their time, talent and resource to RMHC helping to offset costs and allowing the Charity to direct more donations back to programs supporting children and their families.

On behalf of the millions of  children and their families we helped in 2017, we say, ‘thanks’ and invite you to find your own volunteer opportunity.

For information contact Leo Desrosiers or sign up on the Club's Facebook site and the RMHC volunteer hub.

Summer Service Learning Program: Students Arrive in Atlanta!

Center for Social Concerns.png

Our first two SSLP students arrived on May 18th and the third arrived the following week. Please reach out to the students and welcome them to Atlanta by inviting them in any events the students might enjoy.  Examples of such events are sporting events, Masses, weekend lake visits, home cooked family meals, etc.

  • Georgia Twersky will be working at Catholic Charities in Refugee Resettlement.  She arrived in Atlanta May 18th, is away June 29th - July 7th, and departs Atlanta on July 20th.

  • Andy Watkins will be working at Sheltering Arms.  He arrived in Atlanta May 18th and departs July 13th.

  • Jae Won Kim will be working at Atlanta Community Food Bank.  He arrived in Atlanta May 27th and departs July 20th.

Rooted in the Catholic social tradition and in collaboration with Notre Dame Clubs and site partners across the country, the Summer Service Learning Program (SSLP) is a three-credit Theology course with eight-week immersive service placements in communities on the margins of society. Students develop a deeper conviction of the kinship of all persons made equally in God’s image, a more disciplined awareness of the causes and effects of social injustice, and a lifelong commitment to vocations marked by solidarity and the pursuit of the common good.

Please contact Kara Miller with any questions, suggestions or concerns about the SSLP program at 678-386-7958 or at
